A Halloween recipe for Tiramisu that is basically a fancier twist on the dirt cups, perfect for Halloween parties!
This is basically a fancier twist on the dirt cups I loved as a kid. Which was chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos, and a gummy worm. This version? I made homemade ladyfingers, soaked them in coffee (with a dash of rum—skip it if you’re underage), and layered them with mascarpone cream.
The beauty is: you can make it from scratch, but it’s also super party-friendly if you shortcut with store-bought ladyfingers. Most of the effort is in getting your mascarpone cream right—egg yolks over a double boiler, or you can go easier: mascarpone + whipped cream + vanilla + pinch of salt + powdered sugar (but go easy on sugar!). People always tell me it’s not too sweet—that’s what I aim for.
This recipe great for Halloween festivities, aka the best time of year (we're all entitled to our own holiday opinions people!)
Ingredients
For the Ladyfingers:
½ cup granulated sugar, divided (100g)
3 large eggs, separated
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour (120g)
5 teaspoons cornstarch
Powdered sugar, for dusting
For the Tiramisu Filling:
1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
8-ounce container mascarpone cheese, at room temperature
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups cold espresso or strong brewed coffee
3 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur (optional; e.g., Kahlua)
6 Oreo cream fillings (reserved from crumbling the cookies)
Cocoa powder, for dusting
For the Decoration:
Crushed Oreo cookies (to resemble dirt)
Gummy worms
Candy pumpkins
Feel free to add whatever candy you want to decorate! Gummy spiders, marshmallows or cookies for tombstones!
Instructions
Prepare the Ladyfingers:
Follow the detailed instructions from my Homemade Ladyfingers Recipe. Once baked and cooled, set them aside.
Make the Tiramisu Filling:
In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip until soft peaks form.
In a separate bowl, blend the room-temperature mascarpone cheese with the reserved Oreo cream fillings until smooth.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
Assemble the Tiramisu:
Mix the cold espresso with the coffee-flavored liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish.
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are moist but not soggy.
Layer the soaked ladyfingers at the bottom of your serving dish.
Spread a layer of the mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers.
Repeat the layers, finishing with the mascarpone filling on top.
Dust the top layer with cocoa powder.
Add the Halloween Decorations:
Sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies over the top to create the “dirt” effect.
Place gummy worms and candy pumpkins on top, arranging them to give a playful, spooky appearance.
Chill and Serve:
Refrigerate the assembled tiramisu for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
Serve chilled and enjoy the delightful combination of classic tiramisu flavors with a fun Halloween twist!
